Piedmont & Beyond
An Overview
For Piedmont enthusiasts, the last few years have been a real treat. A succession of very fine vintages, culminating in one of the very best in recent memory has left lovers of this regal region spoilt for choice. Stealing the headlines in recent months has been the response to the release of the superb 2021s. A modicum of research on the vintage reveals a raft of glowing reviews, with terms such as ‘exceptional’, ‘stellar’ and even ‘modern benchmark’ being suggested. Hugely respected critic Antonio Galloni is unequivocal in his praise, stating “2021 is a superb vintage for Barolo”. Well, the question is, should you believe the hype? Yes, you should. Why? The growing conditions were excellent for Nebbiolo. Factor in the presence of an ambitious, new generation of growers and winemakers, keen to make their mark, and you have all the makings of an exciting set of releases.
Recognised as completing a trilogy of excellent vintages, 2021 looks to have raised the bar but we’re also able to offer Riserva level Barolo from 2019, younger Langhe from 2023 and 2024, while away from Nebbiolo we have Barbera d ’Alba and the rare varietal, Pelaverga.
Piedmont & Beyond
With ideal growing conditions for Nebbiolo and enthusiastic acclaim from critics, recent vintages in Piedmont have been hailed as very good right through to superb for 2021. We were thrilled during recent tastings by the quality on offer from all our producers. Their wines show a beautiful balance of energy, elegance and aromatic intensity.

Displaying lovely, ruby clarity in the glass, the Langhe offers up pronounced aromas of red fruits such as raspberry, apricot, and cherry, complemented by floral hints of violets. The mouthfeel is warm and delicately dry, showcasing a well-balanced structure with pleasant tannins and a lingering aftertaste of cherries. Delicious! 0-5 years

Still Red
This is the estate’s flagship wine, sourced from vineyards in Contrada Roggeri, Bettolottii and San Biagio. Initially quite subtle on the nose, it opens to reveal notes of herb, red cherry, mint and dried apricot. There’s some grip but the core is sumptuous with almost a ‘sweetness’ to the red fruit. Seductive and moreish, this is an excellent Barolo which will improve with tie. 5-15 years.

Still Red
Sourced from 60–70-year-old vines, just south of the La Morra hill the Capalot always delivers greater intensity than the Commune. Surprisingly approachable, there’s a wealth of herb, mint, spice and black cherry on the nose. Generous, with soft edges, there is added red and black fruit weight and evidence of botti grandi ageing on the palate. So much too like, this will age easily for years to come. 5-15 years

Still Red
Quite restrained on the nose, it offers up hints of liquorice, spice, rose hip, plum, fresh leather and cherry. Tightly bound and structured, it is rich and powerful in nature with fine well integrated tannins. With a broad, persistent finish, the fruity and spicy notes blend with a pleasant minerality. Worth tucking away for several years. 5-15 years.
