Portugal

If you’re looking for a new angle to your enjoyment of wine, Portugal must be one of the best places to explore, mixing a long vinous history with a willingness to embrace modern technology. It is such a fascinating wine-producing country, stuffed with interesting, deep-coloured reds and exhilarating, well-crafted whites. We champion Douro Valley reds, certainly a ‘must taste’ for claret enthusiasts, as these wines are full of silky, dark fruit with great ageing potential. The southern Alentejo region has been performing superbly, garnering plenty of followers. They are such good value in the scheme of things! Crisp white Vinho Verde is making a well-deserved come back and you should also try the wines from Lisbon and its surrounding areas, now labelled as Vinhos de Lisboa. We’ve also found a great new producer in the Algarve, proving it’s not just a holiday destination.
