Pinot Noir Précoce
Pinot Noir Précoce, also known as Frühburgunder in Germany, is an early-ripening mutation of Pinot Noir. Believed to have originated in Burgundy, it is now primarily grown in Germany, Luxembourg, and parts of England. Its early ripening makes it well-suited to cooler climates, where it avoids the risks of late-season frosts, and recent years have seen a boom in plantings. Pinot Noir Précoce produces wines with soft tannins and moderate acidity, often displaying flavours of ripe red berries such as cherry, raspberry, and strawberry, along with earthy, hedgerow notes. The wines are typically fuller-bodied than standard Pinot Noir and can develop complex, savoury characteristics with age.
