In the ‘Ten Year’s On’ Blind Tasting at Southwold this year Ch. Tronquoy (junior partner of Montrose) wowed the judges and performed on a par with some very illustrious Bordeaux properties. There is no doubt that this stylish claret has developed very well; enjoy now or keep for a few more years.

Sweet-tinged red fruits and brambly forest fruits aromas backed by some fine toasty oak, a little iron and damp earth. The palate offers a classic Saint-Estèphe savoury, mineral vein and plenty of structure, overlaid with supple, saline-infused, soft dark fruits, fine spicing and a mix of toasty oak and cedar. Classy claret and notably long.

Presented in a wooden case when you buy six bottles of this wine.

Press Review

"30 ha in the heart of St-Estèphe planted with Merlot (52%), Cabernet Sauvignon (39%), Petit Verdot (6%) and Cabernet Franc (3%). Was this pre Bouyges? Deep crimson. Polished and frank – more impressive than the other red bordeaux so far in this Bunch tasting, but then it’s much more expensive! Quite luxurious in fact and good proof that 2014s are drinking rather well now. Good confidence and drive here. Long and decidedly superior."

Château Tronquoy

Château Tronquoy has a vineyard spanning 30 hectares in the heart of Saint-Estèphe. The origins of the estate date back to the 18th century but, after several different owners, it was acquired by Martin and Olivier Bouygues in 2006.

Today it shares much inspiration and winemaking with Château Montrose although it is run as a separate entity. Unlike its neighbours, 52% of the vineyard is planted with Merlot: Cabernet Sauvignon only accounts for 39%, followed by Petit Verdot (6%) and Cabernet Franc (3%). The planting density is 9000 vines per hectare.
