This has an attractive, floral nose with good fresh fruit on the palate, including touches of pear and plenty of juicy character. Grasevina is the name that Croatia is now giving to the grape that used to be Welsch Riesling.

Kutjevo Winery

Kutjevo is a large, mixed agricultural producer specialising in the Graševina grape.

Kutjevo Winery, which shares its name with the town and area, is situated in the Slavonia region in the North-East of the country. Wine production here can be traced back to 1232 and Cistercian monks – their cellar is still used today by Kutjevo and houses a 70,000 bottle wine library dating back to 1947. The company was formed through a coming together of many different companies and types of ownership into one large group, now in private hands, which covers various types of agricultural production, such as cereals and livestock as well as 420 ha of their own vines. They have contracts with the owners of a further 400 ha of vines. The vines are on the southern slopes of the Papuk and Krndija mountains and produce over four million litres of wine a year, 80% of which is from the Graševina grape. They are located at over 200 metres above sea level, and most are over 30 years old, in protected micro-climates. Graševina, for many years also known as Welsch Riesling, produces a wide variety of styles depending on the production methods and the terroir on which it is grown. Kutjevo’s cellars combine modern methods with the traditional and produce nearly half of Croatia’s total wine exports from their cellars."
