All American Food & Wine Matching

Matching food with the right wine can really elevate a dish. It’s not a competition – like a certain election – but it’s about ensuring the flavours of the meal and the glass work in harmony. From comfort food to oh-so-sweet desserts, American food is often full of a variety of textures and flavours. But what wine works with these dishes? In true homage to all things American, we’ve paired some classic US dishes with an array of American wines.

770 Miles Zinfandel, California
Rich, ripe Zinfandel from California packed full of delicious raspberry, strawberry and blackberry fruit flavours. Soft tannins on the palate compliment the classic varietal character.

Try it with: Cheeseburger and fries

Rated 5* by customers:
A truly delicious California Zinfandel at a very good price. Don't want to tell everyone as you may run out!! Shona S, July 2024

Cuvaison 'Estate Grown' Chardonnay, Carneros, Napa Valley
Very much in the Burgundy tradition, even the winery's name is French! The fruit for this wine is sourced from the cool climate of Carneros to the south of the region. Dry and intense with buttery, nutty aromas and tropical fruit.

Try it with: Turkey burgers

Bogle Vineyards Old Vine Zinfandel, California
This is concentrated stuff, made from old vines. The dynamic Bogle team has produced a wine in which mouth-filling blueberry and blackberry fruit gives way to black pepper and chocolate mid-palate then on to a spicy finish.

Try it with: BBQ beef brisket

Chehalem Winery Pinot Noir, Chehalem Mountains
Bright, juicy cherry fruit burst from the glass with a lovely peppery note, juicy and fruit forward with beautifully silky tannins with more dark cherry fruit to finish, wonderfully easy to drink!

Try it with: Meatloaf and creamy mashed potatoes

Chehalem Winery Inox Unoaked Chardonnay, Columbia Valley
Fresh, crisp and appley with a lovely creaminess balanced by a citrus zest and a hint of honeycomb before a gently floral and mineral finish, all very elegantly done.

Try it with: Macaroni cheese

Bogle Vineyards Chenin Blanc, Clarksburg, California
A delightful floral nose of blossom leads on to a classic Chenin palate of honey, green apples and hints of pineapple. The finish is soft and silky. Patty Bogle heads up this family company, whose first vines were planted in 1968.

Try it with: Lobster rolls or loaded potato skins

Elysium California Black Muscat, Dessert Wine, Quady - Half
Elysium is used to either accompany or replace dessert. Full of rich, velvety fruit, it is wonderful with blue cheeses, with desserts containing red fruits with vanilla, with dark chocolate, with ice cream desserts, and candlelight.

Try it with: Boston Chocolate Brownies

Essensia California Orange Muscat, Dessert Wine, Quady – Half
From 100% Orange Muscat with an aroma reminiscent of orange blossom and apricot, and a lingering refreshing aftertaste, it will pair wonderfully with any creamy desserts.

Try it with: New York Cheesecake

In true American spirit….
The USA doesn’t just produce superb wines, but spirits too.

Buffalo Trace, Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
A terrific, characterful whiskey with hints of vanilla, charcoal and spice on the nose broadens on the palate with creamy toffee, plenty of cinnamon spice and a sweet spicy finish.

Try it with: Pecan pie
