Your Tanners Tasting Tour

Have you tried the Tanners own label range yet? Perhaps a Tanners Claret is a regular feature in your wicker basket, it is our best-selling wine after all. Maybe Tanners Prosecco is your go-to bottle of bubbly or perhaps Peaty Creag, our 8-year-old Scotch blend, makes a frequent appearance in your drinks cabinet. There is, of course, every possibility that you haven’t even tried any at all. Well, not yet anyway. But why are they so well-loved? Let’s find out.

Pure and Simple

There’s no fuss. They are just wonderful expressions of signature grape varieties and styles from some of the most celebrated wine-producing countries and regions.

So, whether you adore aromatic New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc filled with herbaceous and tropical fruit, or you have a penchant for fruit-filled French Merlot, you will not be disappointed with our Tanners House Range.

Where do they come from?

Established in 1842, it’s fair to say that we know and work with fantastic producers around the world. As a merchant, Tanners doesn’t have vineyards but luckily, we know people who do. Given our connections, it’s only natural to entrust those at the top of their game with creating the Tanners own label range.

To carry the name and reputation of Tanners is quite something. We are proud to offer such an extensive range of quality wines that feature our name on, front and centre. Of course, some may argue that we’re biased – they are our own labels so of course we love them - but it’s not about us, it’s about providing you with a range of top-quality wines that are staple bottles for you to enjoy all year round.

The relationship with the producers we work with is incredibly important to Tanners, many of whom have become lifelong friends. Maison Sichel, for example, has worked with Tanners since the 1890’s - a true example of friendship in wine.

Versatility

From seeing you through mid-week meals to becoming your crowd-pleasing party wines, the Tanners own label wines are fit for all occasions. Even if you just need a bottle to open at the end of the week, the own label range is recommended as your first port of call.

With easy-drinking appeal and covering a range of varieties and styles, there is something for everyone.

The Tanners Chardonnay is a top-pick from Rachel Armstrong, Tanners Wine in Time Manager:

“A regular in my wine rack and a firm family favourite. Such a well-rounded white, striking the right balance between the richness and generosity of fruit akin to New World Chardonnays, with the minerality and clean finish of a classic French. Very drinkable in its own right, or equally food friendly; I can heartily recommend it with buttered seabass and lardons accompanied by parmentier potatoes!”

Consistency

There are no hidden surprises in our own label range, just superb examples of popular varieties that customers trust for providing quality at accessible prices.

You don’t have to know the name of the Château, the vineyard or even the vintage.

It’s great to be able to pick a wine that isn’t complicated. Of course, taste is subjective, but when you want something that delivers a good glass of wine without a hefty price tag it’s hard to beat the Tanners labels.

If you want a full-bodied fruity Malbec or a silky Spanish red then you’ll find it. As customer Paul K found with the Tanners Douro, it’s “always a dependable and relaxing drink.”

Whilst consistency is a key component of the own label range, Tanners were delighted to add in a new addition last Autumn with the arrival of the first-ever Tanners New Zealand Pinot Noir. Made by New Zealand wine superstar Ben Glover, who also makes our New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, it’s been an immediate hit. Rated 5 star by customer Kevin F, he says it’s “…another Tanners own brand classic.”

Around-the-world trip

From Burgundy to Portugal and Argentina to New Zealand, the Tanners own label range is a global tasting tour in quality and style.

Showcasing signature grape styles from iconic regions, you can try everything from a classic Rhône Valley Red blend to a juicy Chilean Chardonnay. So, forget long waits at the airport and get your world wine tour delivered straight to your door.

When a standard bottle just won’t do

Sometimes a standard bottle just doesn’t cut the mustard.

A few of our top-sellers feature in half bottles making them perfect-sized presents, or even a great way to try a few bottles in your very own Tanners tasting flight.

And if that’s just too small, a select number of our own labels can be found in magnum size. Ideal for parties and all manner of celebrations, a magnum is a must-have centrepiece to wow your guests.

Tanners Douro is one of our most popular reds and it’s available in all size formats. A consistent crowd-pleaser, customer Ian T. rated it 5 stars and said, “We have had this wine before and really liked it, plus the large bottle makes a great present.

That’s the Spirit

It’s not just wine that can be found in the own label range, but spirits too. Featuring our clean and crisp Hereford Finest Dry Gin to the celebrated 8-year-old Scotch blend, these bottles are 5* rated by customers and loved all year long. Offering a punch of flavour yet delivering value without compromising on quality, these bottles are not to be sniffed at.

Tanners customer David G states that Tanners Peaty Creag, 8 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky is “great easy quaffing whisky.”

Perfect Port

Deliciously sweet and fruity, the core selection of Tanners Port bottles across three different styles and price points offers you a window into the world of Port. Primed and ready for drinking, there is no need to wait around for further maturation.

A great addition to a cheese board or even a sweet dessert, a glass of Port adds that touch of finesse and elegance. So, grab a glass and pour.

Sumptuously Sweet

Deliciously honeyed, yet with good freshness and not overly cloying, the Tanners Sauternes – Half is well-loved, but the vineyard is somewhat of a closely guarded secret; all we can say is it has a very fine pedigree!

And like Port, a Sauternes is not just for Christmas. A favourite all year round, Sauternes can make a perfect partner for rich blue cheese or a crème brûlée.

Sparkling Savings

Covering a core range of sparkling, you can find a selection of elegant Champagne, crowd-pleasing Cava and fruit-filled Prosecco. Open to all budgets, the Tanners own label sparkling wines are not only quality-driven, but they are some of the most affordable bottles of fizz available. It’s these bottles that make popping the cork without an excuse of a big birthday or anniversary completely acceptable (and encouraged!).

For the love of Sherry

Gone are days when Sherry was associated with Miss Marple and village gossip, the world of Sherry is bursting with flavour and varying styles.

The dry and almost savoury Tanners Fino, as well as the fresh and tangy  Tanners Mariscal Manzanilla, are top matches for coastal picnics and tapas; the nutty aromas and flavours of Tanners Amontillado make it a winning partner with a strong Manchego or mature cheddar. If you fancy something sweeter then the sweet and sumptuous Tanners Cream Sherry is the bottle to pick. From soft cheese to rich vanilla ice cream, a bottle of Cream Sherry adds a touch of sweetness that will be sure to delight all who try it.

Limited Editions

Even the Tanners lines feature limited editions. Certain vintages are just too exceptional and are required to be bottled as special parcels; you may have seen the ‘Super’ bottles such as the Tanners Super Claret, Moulis-en-Médoc 2018. These bottles capture every essence of superior quality from superb vintages; a one-time opportunity to purchase before the parcels sells out.

So, whether you’re a dedicated Tanners drinker or perhaps needed a little nudge to pick up a bottle, give the own label range a whirl and let us know your favourite.
