Bodegas Angel was founded in 2006 by Andrés Gelabert, born on Mallorca but living most of his life in California where his passion for wine was formed, before returning to the island in 2000.
Bodegas Angel is located in the wine-growing centre of Mallorca, in the town of Santa María de el Camí on the road to Sencelles and Santa Eugenia. The wine cellars have a few big large windows and it is lined with stone, typical of ancient Majorcan constructions, and which were obtained from the pre-planting of the vineyard. The bodega is surrounded by 20 hectares of vineyard, which stretch to the horizon of the Serra de Tramontana. The wines show a unique character due to this iconic location: the seaboard influence; the red soils, called 'Call Vermell' rich in iron oxide; and finally hill range, which acts as a barrier to the North wind. Higher vineyards to the west are being developed to support the demand for their award-winning whites. Prensal Blanc and Manto Negro are the principle white and red varieties grown, with Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon bolstering the wines. The goal is simply to make excellent wines, combining the best grapes from the area with modern facilities for the production of wine.
