Isle of Raasay Distillery

The idea came about when entrepreneur Bill Dobbie met whisky blender Alasdair Day back in 2013 and decided on the simple sounding goal of creating Scotland’s leading Artisanal distillery. By 2015 they had identified the Isle of Raasay and the 19th century Borodale House as the site for their project including the distillery, visitors centre and luxury accommodation. The Isle of Raasay sits is part of the Inner Hebrides between Skye and the Scottish mainland and is just 13 mile long by six wide, with a population of just 161, a quarter of whom are now employed by the distillery. The distillery opened its doors in September of 2017 and has been distilling ever since. As it is important to them to support the local economy all production and ageing takes place on the Island.
