Kadarka
The main component red grape of Hungary’s ‘Bull’s Blood’ (Egri Bikavér), Kadarka has a similarity to Pinot Noir, showing soft, fine tannins as well as good acidity and a spicy note. Mainly grown around Eger, it also crops up as Gamza in Bulgaria. Both countries claim its origin, but it appears in various other guises up and down the Balkans as well.
