Mondeuse
Mondeuse is a red wine grape variety native to the Savoie region in eastern France. Thought to be possibly related to Syrah, which thrives further south in the Rhône Valley, it works well in Savoie’s cooler climate, producing bold wines with deep colour and soft but structured tannins. While predominantly found in France, Mondeuse is also cultivated in small quantities in Switzerland, California, and Australia. Its wines are characterized by intense dark berry flavours—particularly black cherry and blackberry—alongside spicy, peppery notes and earthy nuances. With naturally high acidity, Mondeuse is well-suited for ageing and pairs beautifully with hearty, rich cuisine. It is often encountered ‘Après Ski’!
