Mouhtaro
Mouhtaro is a rare red grape variety native to Greece that almost died out in the 1970s, primarily found in the region of Central Greece around the village of Askri in the Valley of the Muses. Known for its deep colour and aromatic profile, Mouhtaro produces medium to full-bodied wines with flavours of ripe red berries, black cherry, and plum, accompanied by floral and herbal notes. It often shows refreshing acidity and soft tannins, making it suitable for both early drinking and ageing. Mouhtaro pairs well with grilled meats, lamb, game dishes, and Mediterranean cuisine, offering a unique expression of Greece’s diverse viticultural heritage.
