Way back when, in my days of being a poor student, a friend brought a bottle of Chateau Musar 1995 to a party (what was she thinking!!) and when I tasted it, I suddenly realised what this huge fuss about wine was all about. It was amazing!! Roll on 2017 and the Hochar family have not lost their touch. This unique wine that is made up of equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and Carignan would be the star at any festive banquet. There’s an enticing bouquet of sweet cherry, plum and dried raisin with complex spice, cocoa and liquorice notes which combine on the palate with subtle, soft tannins giving great length to this wonderful drop. If you find a quiet moment whilst enjoying this wine, look up the amazing history and struggles the Hochar family have endured to bring us this world-renowned wine and you will fall in love with it that little bit more. James Howells

Full of ripe fruit, cherries, blackcurrants and cranberries with liquorice notes. More earthy, brambly fruit on the palate with blackberries, blueberries and cherries amongst the spice.

Château Musar

The near legendary Lebanon estate was founded by Gaston Hochar in 1930 and then run by his son, Serge. Today the estate is in the hands of Gaston's grandchildren Gaston and Marc.

The 180 hectares of vineyards are at an altitude of 3,000 feet in the Bekaa Valley, in a region with a 6000 year old wine producing history, started by the Phoenicians. The vines are grown on a gravely soil with a limestone base. The composition of the blend varies from one year to the next, giving Chateau Musar a different character and identity each year.
