Quincy, Domaine de Trotereau 2022

£18.90

75cl ALC 14%

A lovely wine with a rich and full palate. Pierre Ragon makes it in a very traditional manner, but it’s not a typical Loire Sauvignon; there is great roundness and depth of fruit, a lush style which makes it very more-ish.

Domaine Trotereau

Pierre Ragon inherited the family estate from his mother, Madame Trotereau, in 1973. Pierre's ancestors have lived in the region since at least 1700 and he is the fifth generation to work in this cellar.

This estate was founded in 1804 by Etienne-Augustin Trotereau a wine grower from near-by Vierzon. Sometime after, around 1830, they built the house and cellar that are still there today. Pierre is the last in the line of succession. When he took over there were 4 ha of vines which are still planted with vines over 100 years of age. Pierre won’t replant when a vines dies as he says that would dilute the old vine cuvée he makes. During his tenure the estate has grown to 14 ha which he works himself with only 1 full time employee. The soil here is clay/limestone with quartz. Pierre picks later than is usual these days preferring the extra weight and depth this brings to the wines. The winery practices are very traditional with a longer fermentation than many others in the region due to the later picking. He has two refrigerated trailers in his courtyard so cools the whole trailer to maintain temperature during fermentation and ageing. He leaves the wines on their lees for 4 to 6 months after fermentation and to add body and complexity. He produces around 50,000 bottles per year.
