Henri Prudhon et Fils

Saint-Aubin’s wines are increasingly well-regarded and one the best sources there is Henri Prudhon. The estate is now run by Henri’s grandsons, Vincent and Philippe, who trained in wine marketing and oenology respectively.

The estate dates from 1945, however the family has been in the village since the 17th century. Their cellars are in the village, on the road up to its fine Carolingian church, and the majority of their 14.5 ha of vines are situated amongst Saint-Aubin’s 1er cru vineyards. It was their father Gérard, ‘monsieur le maire’, who expanded their holdings into nearby Chassagne and Puligny-Montrachet. The vines, some of which are more than 80 years old, are cultivated with minimal treatments, guided by a Dijon-based group that is dedicated to sustainable viticulture. The Chardonnays are fermented and matured in oak barrels, and their stature, little behind that of Chassagne-Montrachet, merits more new oak, whereas for the Pinot Noirs, it’s all about strawberry fruit and the use of older oak. The Prudhons’ range is large and good and we taste the wines regularly, our favourites being Le Sentier du Clou and En Remilly in white and Les Frionnes in red. Les Frionnes is situated below Le Sentier du Clou and they share a favourably sunny south-east orientation, whereas En Remilly is on the south-western slope of the hill of Montrachet.

About En Primeur

Lying Abroad/En Primeur/In Bond Wines

Wines offered ‘Lying Abroad’ or ‘En Primeur’ provide a good way to secure some of the most sought after wines at opening prices. In addition we ensure it is the cheapest way to buy favourite mid-priced wines from Bordeaux, Burgundy and the Rhône, so please ask us for our offers or check our website for latest reports. Prices are clearly marked in our sales literature and are exclusive of duty, shipping, marine insurance and VAT. Shipment of claret and Port normally takes place around 30 months after the vintage, burgundy and Rhône usually more quickly. A second invoice for the duty, shipping, marine insurance and VAT on the value of the wine is charged at the time of shipment - view current duty rates. There are no further charges for deliveries to a UK mainland home or work address. Your Lying Abroad purchases are covered under The Bunch Code of Practice which can be sent on request or viewed here.
