Bacchus
Every region wants its signature grape: Argentina is synonymous with Malbec; Marlborough majors on Sauvignon and Uruguay on Tannat. Well those canny winegrowers of Essex and Suffolk are focussing on Bacchus, a successful crossing of Riesling with Müller-Thurgau and named in hope of bringing Bacchanalian results! Bacchus delivers good sugar levels in cooler climates and has flavoursome thick skins making it ideal for the English climate, especially in drier East Anglia.
