Cinsault
Also spelt ‘Cinsaut’, this red grape originated in the Languedoc where it makes popular rosés. It copes with the heat but can be delicate, and disease-prone, which can curtail its popularity somewhat! Fruity and aromatic, it tends to be used as a blend component, except in Lebanon where it is important and prized. Its other claim to fame is being a parent of Pinotage, crossed with Pinot Noir.
