Gunderloch

Estate based at Nackenheim in the Rheinhessen which was bought to prominence by owners Fritz and Agnes Hasselbach with a series of superb wines, particularly late harvest although quality across the range is excellent. In 1996 they bought the Balbach estate at Nierstein and these vineyards give them an excellent holding along the Roter Hang, sloping down to the Rhine. The estate is now run by their son Johannes, the sixth generation of the family to run the estate, who has 24 hectares of vineyards, 12 on steep slopes, the best for quality here, including most of the famous Rothenberg vineyard at Nackenheim. The vineyards are certified organic and the wines ferment with natural yeasts in wood and stainless steel followed by a long maturation on the lees, giving, rich, full flavoured wines.
