Ellen Wakelam and her partner Alex Jungmayr‘s story begins with their 1047 mile walk around Wales which became the catalyst for In the Welsh Wind Distillery, with further inspiration a few years later after time at the Badachro distillery on Scotland’s beautiful west coast during another adventure driving the North Coast 500.
Sitting just off the Cardigan coastline, In the Welsh Wind distillery which the couple established in 2018, sits in the old Gogerddan Arms at Tan-y-Groes. With a portfolio of Welsh Gin, Vodka, Rum and limited release 100% grain-to-glass Single Malt Welsh Whisky, In the Welsh Wind is a name to watch as they develop their brand and product ranges. Only after a few years their hard work was recognised winning Drinks Producer of the Year 2024 at the highly contested Wales Food and Drink Awards. Open-minds, skill and dedication alongside their copper pot stills ‘Meredith’ and ‘Afanc’, and state-of-the-art 5000L whisky still are helping the team craft their award-winning ranges.
