Jean Durup Père et Fils

Jean-Paul Durup has assembled the largest domaine in Chablis, owning a staggering 170 hectares, largely by acquiring and re-planting land that was abandoned after WWII.

Of these myriad parcels, the Durup stronghold is probably the Fourchaume vineyard, but he makes good Montmains, Montée de Tonnerre and Vau de Vey 1er crus as well as 30 Ha of Petit Chablis. These are pure, classic 'terroir wines' showing steely minerality without any use of oak. All his wines undergo malolactic fermentations, and are impeccably made in modern cellars at Maligny. The Durups' renovation of Château de Maligny itself, the impressive if crumbling 12th Century castle on the opposite side of the village, is proving a longer term project.
