Petit Verdot

Despite being rather unkempt in its habit and capriciously late ripening, Petit Verdot is increasingly popular at the top Bordeaux châteaux for the colour, tannin and flavour it brings to their blends. It needs to be used judiciously. Petit Verdot has been planted in the USA, Australia and Chile, and is sometimes made, with mixed results, as a fairly punchy single varietal wine!
