Wingara

Wingara was founded in 1967 by the Yunghanns family who planted vines in Coonawarra and at Mildura in Victoria. A winery was built at Mildura in 1980 and in 1989 they started marketing their own wine under the Sunnycliff label and then the Deakin Estate brand in the mid 1990s.

A winery in Coonawarra was also built in the mid 1980s. In 2001 the Spanish company Freixenet took 60% of the shares and gained full control in 2008 and invested heavily in the vineyards, wineries and other buildings. In 2018 Freixenet merged with Henkell, forming one of the world's biggest wine companies. Wingara now has 170 hectares of vines in Coonawarra and 217 in Victoria and is in the top twenty Australian grape companies in terms of the size of crush and markets brands throughout the world including several for Tanners.
