Inviting dark chocolate and mocha notes entice on the nose. Whilst the palate is bold and driven with a silky, suppleness. There is great concentration here with an appealing fresh, fragrant quality too. 3-9 years.

Le Clos des Cazaux

Brothers, Jean-Michel and Frédéric Archimbaud Vache have run this domaine since taking over from their parents in 2010.

Based in Vacqueyras they have 46 ha of vines in total (26 in Vacqueyras, 16 in Gigondas and 4 of Côtes du Rhône), of which 20 surround the ancient Cazaux buildings, which now house the winery and cellars. It is these vines situated in a Clos around the winery from which the domaine takes its name. They were first planted in the 1950s, when the family planted vines on land that was too poor to sustain any other crop. The family were one of the first to bottle and market Vacqueyras wines. Jean-Michel takes control of the vineyard, whilst Frédéric is the winemaker, both are hugely passionate about making great wines in a sustainable and respectful way to the environment. Most of their work in the vineyards is by hand with the aim of keeping their old vines healthy, yields are low. The winemaking is careful and considered, with individual terroirs and grapes being vinified separately, ageing is usually in concrete or stainless steel meaning no filtration is necessary, just a few specific cuvées are aged in oak. Overall, the style is one where ripe, pure fruit shines through, they drink relatively young but have the structure to mature well.

About En Primeur

Lying Abroad/En Primeur/In Bond Wines

Wines offered ‘Lying Abroad’ or ‘En Primeur’ provide a good way to secure some of the most sought after wines at opening prices. In addition we ensure it is the cheapest way to buy favourite mid-priced wines from Bordeaux, Burgundy and the Rhône, so please ask us for our offers or check our website for latest reports. Prices are clearly marked in our sales literature and are exclusive of duty, shipping, marine insurance and VAT. Shipment of claret and Port normally takes place around 30 months after the vintage, burgundy and Rhône usually more quickly. A second invoice for the duty, shipping, marine insurance and VAT on the value of the wine is charged at the time of shipment - view current duty rates. There are no further charges for deliveries to a UK mainland home or work address. Your Lying Abroad purchases are covered under The Bunch Code of Practice which can be sent on request or viewed here.
